Oriental Orthodox Council Plans for 2007

On Monday February 5, 2007 the Council of Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Western United States held its quarterly meeting at St. Mary Armenian Orthodox Church in Glendale, hosted by His Eminence Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America in Glendale.

The meeting opened with an extensive joint prayer in the Church, in which each group offered a prayer from their church.

At the meeting the leaders of the Oriental Orthodox churches (Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian; Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church; and His Eminence Metropolitan Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Patriarchal Vicar of the Syrian Orthodox Diocese of the Western United States) unanimously agreed to keep His Grace Bishop Serapion as chair of the committee for the fourth successive year since the establishment of the Council.

Also in attendance were nine priests who accompanied the church leaders at the meeting to discuss the details of the following upcoming events:

+ The annual Joint Clergy Meeting (including the Divine Liturgy) – April 12, 2007 at Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Cathedral, Montebello (Western Prelacy), located at 900 West Lincoln Ave., Montebello.

+ One Day Spiritual Retreat for Youth 18 and up – March 24, 2007 at Holy Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox Church, Highland Park.

+ Spiritual Day for Youth ages 9 to 15 – October 27, 2007 at the Western Diocese of the Armenian Orthodox Church, located at 3325 North Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.

The Council also discussed issues related to the celebration of the formation of the Christian Churches Together in the

), which will be held on February 7, 2007 at 7:30pm at 585 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
