The Coptic Orthodox Bishops of North America have issued a letter to the Honorable Donald J. Trump, the former President of the United States of America and current 2024 Republican Nominee for President, in the wake of the attempted assassination on his life.
Dear Mr. Trump,
On behalf of the Coptic Orthodox Bishops of North America, we express our profound sadness at the appalling political violence and attempted assassination directed against you and all peace-loving citizens of this country.
Above all, we thank God for preserving your life in this heinous attack and offer prayers for your continued recovery and for your family. We also pray for the other victims of this senseless violence, and especially the families of the heroic Christian father and husband, Corey Comperatore, who gave his life to protect his family, as well as the others who were wounded physically and emotionally.
We express our strongest condemnation of the hateful division and political violence that is becoming more apparent in our country. They are the very opposite of the foundation upon which this great nation was built—democracy, freedom, justice, peace, and the sanctity of human life.
Finally, we call upon all the faithful to stand united in these difficult times, to be agents of peace while rejecting hatred and division, and to continue praying for our nation and her leaders.
