The visit His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark to Claremont in October 19, 2015 was a significant milestone in the relationship between Coptic studies in academia and Coptic faith and culture as lived by Copts around the world.
The blessing of the presence of His Holiness on October 19, 2015 motivated the three institutions (Claremont School of Theology, Claremont Graduate University, and St. Athanasius and St. Cyril Coptic Orthodox Theological School) to formulate the future of their collaboration and the pursuit of education—through sharing of students, faculty and resources.
The presence and blessing of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II inspired the schools to work swiftly for the signing, that was not anticipated by any of the schools.
These Memoranda of Understanding will enable our ACTS students and graduates to take courses in CST or CGU, have access to both libraries, including the Ernie Tune Coptic collection, as well as to pursue advanced masters degrees in both universities in an accelerated program.
We at ACTS express our sincere gratitude for CGU and CST, and their representatives: Provost Jacob Adams, Dean Tammi Schneider, Her Excellency Sallama Shaker of CGU, President Jeffrey Kuan, Dean Sheryl Holbrook, and Dr. Michael Saad for their collaboration and quick drafting of these memoranda.
We are especially honored and blessed that His Holiness graciously accepted to grant us the privilege of his signature on these two MOUs for this historic event, which is truly a milestone in the pursuit of Coptic theological education.
