Beloved Archdeacon Youssef Abdelmalek Rests in the Lord

Archdeacon Youssef Ragheb Abdelmalek reposed peacefully on the evening of February 17, 2008.

Archdeacon Youssef was born in Egypt on March 8, 1923. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Cairo University in 1948. He worked as an Engineer for many years and reached the rank of Deputy Chairmen of the National Organization of water and Sanitary Drainage in Cairo. He served in many churches in Egypt before coming to California in 1985. He was ordained by His Grace Bishop Bishoy of Damyat on February 4, 1988 as the first Archdeacon in California. He served at St. George in Bellflower for two years prior to moving to serve in St. Mark Church in Los Angeles.

Family and friends will receive condolences on Monday, February 18, 2008 at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Los Angeles from 7:00-9:00pm; and on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church in Santa Ana from 7:00-9:00pm. The Divine Liturgy and Funeral service will be prayed on Saturday, February 23 at 9:00 am at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Los Angeles.

May our Lord Jesus Christ repose his soul in the Paradise of joy.
