From August 21 through August 24, 2005 His Holiness Pope Shenouda III visited the Diocese of Los Angeles. On Sunday August 21, His Holiness visited St. Maurice Coptic Orthodox Church in Pomona, and prayed the Thanksgiving Prayer. Diocese Establishes St. Athanasius and St. Cyril Theological Library

October 25, 2006–His Holiness Pope Shenouda III had a successful spinal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on Sunday, October 22, 2006. The surgery and immediate recovery have been excellent. According to the Catholic News Agency, a coalition of Jewish, Catholic and Protestant organizations has filed an amicus curiae brief with the California Supreme Court arguing that Proposition 8–the successful California ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage in November 2008–should be upheld.
